The learning approach

Pre-primary, Primary & Secondary

Mathematical Studies & Finance

The Cambridge Mathematics curriculum framework provides a solid foundation upon which the later stages of education can be built.

The content areas are all underpinned by Problem solving, which describes using techniques and skills and the application of understanding and strategies in solving problems. Mental strategies are also a key part of the Number content. This curriculum focuses on principles, patterns, systems, functions and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge. The Cambridge Primary and Secondary Mathematics curriculum framework provides a solid foundation upon which the later stages of education can be built.

Language Arts

The curriculum for language has evolved keeping in mind the sound principle that effective understanding and use of language(s) enables the child to make connections between ideas, people and things and to relate to the world around. It fully recognizes the inbuilt linguistic potential of a child and that bilingual proficiency raises the levels of cognitive growth, social tolerance, divergent thinking and scholastic achievement. In its design, language is not confined to the language classroom but cuts across all other disciplines thus making it an instrument for abstract thought and knowledge acquisition through literacy. The approach to language development is holistic with the focus on developing the basic listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and integrating language as a tool for learning, understanding and creative expression.

In Secondary, the Cambridge language curriculum is followed. Overreaching aim of which is to promote high standards of language and literacy by equipping pupils with a strong command of the spoken and written word, and to develop their love of literature through widespread reading for enjoyment.

Students are exposed to reading a wide range of fiction and non-fiction, including in particular whole books, short stories, poems and plays with a wide coverage of genres, historical periods, forms and authors.

The beauty of the natural world is best appreciated through close association and observation. The enormous variety and colour of flowers, the different species of trees, seasonal fruits & vegetables, and the flora typical to extremes of weather provide a fascinating study for all ages. Beginning with a simple study of leaf shapes to growing flowering plants, at Ardee we experience the miracle of nature.

The animal kingdom holds a natural fascination for children. Activities & projects both in the classroom and through outdoor visits/camps, age-appropriate documentaries and of course, study of the animal world promotes well informed and caring citizens of tomorrow.

Matter & Astronomy

Apart from the utility of Astronomy in the ordinary sense of the word, the study of this science is of the highest value as an intellectual training. The study of this science cultivates nearly every faculty of the mind; its memory, its reasoning power, and its imagination, all receive from it special exercise and development. By the precise and mathematical character of many of its discussions, it enforces exactness of thought and expression and corrects vague indefiniteness which is apt to be the result of pure literary training. On the other hand, by the beauty and grandeur of the subjects it presents, it stimulates the imagination and gratifies the poetic sense. In every way, it well deserves its place in education.

Supernovas, stars, asteroids, meteors, satellites and galaxies! Students discover the wonder and power of a tiny atom and all its potential. This comprehensive curriculum provides plenty of activities to explore the mysteries of the universe, to discover many answers to why and how things exist and behave, and to seek further answers to questions that inevitably arise. Our curriculum paves the way for little astronauts/scientists, in the making by providing the opportunity and the guidance to fulfill their dreams.

Global Perspective

History, Physical and Cultural Geography

‘"You can not know where you are going until you know where you came from".’

These simple, yet profound words are the guiding principles behind our history curriculum. We explore the history of our families, immediate neighbourhood, local city, Delhi and then, in older classes, the history of India and the World.

History at the Ardee campus comes alive through personal stories, photographs, movies, related literature and documentaries.

In Secondary classes, the students continue to develop chronologically secure knowledge of history and learn to establish clear narratives within and across periods studied. The course offers a variety of learning experiences that help in the development of transferable life‐long skills which enable the student to explore the how, why, when, and with what results, events in the past took place.

Modern Foreign Language

The purpose of Modern Foreign Languages programme at The Ardee School is to show students a broader world view and prepare them to be global citizens. Learning a foreign language helps in understanding of diversity, development of positive attitudes leading to a great sense of respect for people of other cultures. Children are also able to demonstrate higher levels of cognitive flexibility and critical thinking skills.

At The Ardee School, we offer French and German from Environment three onwards.

Science & Medicine

Science is offered to students through first-hand experience, at every stage, thus building on their natural curiosity and stimulating them to investigate and question.

- At the primary stage, the child engages in joyfully exploring the world and harmonizing with it, thus acquiring the basic cognitive, psychomotor and language skills through observation, classification and inference. The child, then, moves on to learning through familiar experiences and engage in hands-on activities, like creating a working model of a windmill. At higher levels, the students engage in learning science as a composite discipline with more advanced tools.

- Issues concerning the environment and health (reproductive and sexual health) are an important component of learning through all stages of the curriculum.

- The curriculum is very mindful of the fact that children are natural scientists with endless questions about the world in which they live. Hands-on experiments will be conducted with materials from everyday life that will challenge the young scientists' intellects and challenge them to explore their world.

Cambridge Secondary curriculum framework of Science covers four content areas: scientific enquiry, biology, chemistry and physics. Scientific enquiry is about considering ideas, evaluating evidence, planning investigative work, and recording and analysing data. The scientific enquiry objectives underpin biology, chemistry and physics, which are focused on developing confidence and interest in scientific knowledge.

A variety of teaching techniques are used to foster scientific temper among the students. These include videos, models, animations and simulations, demonstrations, expositions and discussions. Students are also taken for educational trips, and talks or workshops on relevant topics are also organized. Projects that encourage research work are also are used as appropriate to enrich the learning experience. An effective method of stimulating interest in the subject is by involving students directly in activities which are hands on experimental work.

Politics at Ardee is not taught as a subject but as civic sense. Respect and concern for property, for oneself and fellow schoolmates, for the environment coupled with an understanding of the importance of class rules helps internalize the democratic values and responsibilities which form the cornerstone of our country. In older classes, democracy is practiced in the classroom and school through class elections and panchayats.

News & Current Events

The knowledge of one or a few subjects is just not enough. The importance of being informed cannot be understated in today's world. The Ardee School addresses this need every day. The children are made aware of the issues concerning all of us on a regular basis. However, topics are chosen with care and discussed in a manner that is easily assimilated by the child. Hands-on activities, news workshops, working models, visits and talks by experts ensure the children are abreast with the news.

General Knowledge

The children of The Ardee School are distinguished by their high level of confidence and general knowledge. Since every activity and learning capsule is designed through extensive research giving the child a complete overview of the topic, the children have clarity and depth of knowledge. Coupled with a well-rounded co-curriculum, the children's general knowledge is on a constant continuum of growth.

Leadership & Logic

The need of the hour is to nurture and develop leadership qualities in our children – the future leaders of our country. We, at THE ARDEE SCHOOL, have chosen the Montessori method up-to the elementary level (age 9) because it is proven the world over to be the best method to build self-confidence, care for one's belongings and the environment, and social skills.

Peace Education

"Avoiding war is the work of politics, establishing peace is the work of education". – Dr. Montessori

Peace Education and the Peace Curriculum are based on these teachings of Dr. Maria Montessori. Her vision and goal was the reconstruction of society and the establishment of world peace with the help of education. For her efforts, she was nominated for the Nobel Peace Award. To convey the true concept of peace to students from preschool to high school is intrinsic in the curriculum.

Our curriculum spells Dr. Montessori’s conviction that peace, as a state of being, not just absence of hostility and war, is based on the peaceful development and unfoldment of children's innate potential. Individuals who have fulfilled their potential are self-actualized contributors to life, who have found their purpose in life, have self respect and consequent respect and appreciation of others contributions. They are peaceable. They appreciate and collaborate not only with their fellow humans but with all living creatures and the planet on which we live.
